Director's Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you and your family to the International School of the Basel Region AG. It is our aim to ensure that every student achieves their optimum potential. In order to accomplish our objective, we put teaching and learning at the centre of our work. Our vision is based upon clear values: mutual respect, academic success, and creating a passion for learning. In addition to instilling these values throughout the whole school community, we provide a safe, healthy, stimulating and exciting environment for all.

ISB has an outstanding team of dedicated and inspiring staff who are motivated and united in encouraging students to achieve their individual learning potential. We have high expectations, and we support all our students through the learning process. Praise and encouragement are essential in creating a climate of optimal learning and achievement.

We place a high value on our relationship with students and their parents, and recognise the importance of these relationships, so that success can be realised. Everyone has an important part to play in developing our School.

ISB is an IB World School, offering all three education programmes: the Primary Years’ Programme (PYP) for our younger students, the Middle Years’ Programme (MYP) for students aged 11 to 16, and the Diploma Programme (DP) for our senior students in the final two years of their school careers. The IB programmes aim to support and develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who will actively participate in creating a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding. To this end the IB Organisation works with schools and other institutions from around the world to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes underpin our vision at ISB, and encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, should be valued equally as human beings. This is what we want for our young people.

As an international school with almost 60 nationalities representing our community, we encourage and celebrate diversity everyday. You will notice that there are several English standards (American, British and Canadian to name a few) being used throughout this website, depending on the author.
