Health, Safety and Security
The students’ health and safety are paramount in order for them to be successful in all that they do. At ISB, we have nurses to provide care when needed and clear guidelines to help maintain a healthy environment for all.
All staff and parents will be issued with an ISB ID badge. This must be worn in a visible manner whilst on the school property. Visitors are required to sign in at the main reception desk at either campus and are issued with a visitor’s badge. All visitors must sign out and return the badges before leaving the premises. Any person without a proper ID will be addressed and directed back to Reception to sign in.
Health Forms
A completed Student Health Form, Student Insurance and Emergency Contact Form, a copy of the vaccination record and Doctor’s Report for each child must be submitted with your Application for Admission Form to the Admissions Office. The School must be notified of any changes in their child’s health or contact details by the parents. Students who have not submitted the Student Health Forms will not be permitted to attend field trips.
School Nurse
Both campuses are staffed by a professionally
trained and qualified Nurse who is able to help and advise regarding local health care
facilities. In order to provide first aid to any student who requires it, each School has a medically well-equipped
room. Staff rooms also contain a notice board with photos of
students who have serious health issues so that staff will recognise
these students and be better able to determine when medical assistance
is needed.
Allergies
Whilst ISB is not a peanut/nut-free
school, we urge parents and students not to bring nuts or any nut
products into School due to students and staff with nut allergies.
Medications
For
the Nurse to administer prescribed medication, the container has
to be clearly labelled with both the student’s and medication’s name. A
medication consent form must be completed by the parent.
All
medications must be handed in to the Nurse except for students
with health conditions requiring emergency medication such as asthma,
diabetes or severe allergies. Students who need such medication should
meet with the Nurse. The School has a supply of Paracetamol and
other over-the-counter medications for students as necessary after
prior parental consent is obtained.
Illness and Accidents at School
Child(ren)
who have been suffering from fever, vomiting, diarrhoea or infectious
diseases should stay at home until the Student has been free of all symptoms
for a full 24 hours. Any student with a contagious bacterial infection must
complete at least 24 hours of antibiotics before returning to School.
If
a student falls ill and in the nurse’s opinion should not remain in
School, the parents or emergency contact person on the Student Health Form will be contacted for the student to be collected. Parents are
requested to ensure that the School can reach someone at all times and
that they can pick up their child when necessary.
Security Measures
Emergency drills, lockdown and evacuation practices take place on a regular basis. This is done to ensure that all personnel on campus are well-prepared in the unlikely event of such emergencies. This is also required by the School’s accreditation agencies. Procedures are reviewed with students prior to the practice of drills. Parents are also encouraged to familiarise themselves with the procedures.
Fire Emergency
The Fire Procedure Sheet is posted in all classrooms as well as in Reception and the Aula. Upon hearing the fire alarm, all visitors are requested to follow the prescribed procedure as announced through the School Public Announcement (PA) system.
Lockdown Drill
The Lockdown Procedure Sheet is posted in all classrooms. In general, the beginning and end of the lockdown alarm will be announced through the School Public Announcement (PA) system. Visitors are requested to follow the announced procedures.
