Just the Facts

ISB is a not-for-profit, co-educational day school. Founded in 1979, ISB provides an international education to the highest recognized academic standards and is committed to promoting learning, cultural awareness and international understanding as well as developing respect and appreciation for people of all nationalities, religions and cultural backgrounds.

The School is recognized by the Education Department of the Kanton of Baselland and authorized to operate as an approved alternative to local schools. In May 1999 the School’s name was changed to the ISBR AG, and its legal status from a Verein to an Aktiengesellschaft (AG) – a non profit company.

ISB is a private, English-language day school for students aged 3 to 19 years. Admission requirements include but are not limited to satisfactory records from the previous school, a recommendation from the previous principal and a working knowledge of English. Limited learning support is offered.

The curriculum offered at ISB is based on the International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes. As an IB World School, ISB is authorized to offer all 3 IB programmes; Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). ISB is fully accredited by the Council of International School (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

The well-qualified and experienced teaching staff is committed to the development of the integrity and intellect of our students through our rigorous academics, our cultural and environmental awareness programmes as well as our exploration of nationalities, religions and cultural backgrounds.

All classes are conducted in English except for language classes. German is offered from Pre-School, French from Grade 4 and Spanish as a language option at Grade 6. Students not fluent in English receive regular English as an Additional Language (EAL) instruction to enable them to enter mainstream classes.

As part of the IB Diploma Programme, students may continue to study their native language even if it is not offered as part of the ISB curriculum. In such cases, students proceed on a self-taught basis with the assistance of an external language teacher. The School will help to organize these classes for your child.

Additional languages can be studied through the Extra Curricular Program.

If you have any issues or concerns in regards to your child, please contact the Admissions Officer for additional information.

The School has an active Parents' Association (PA) and Student Council. The Extra-Curricular Programme (ECP) offers an after school care programme as well as over 115 after school and evening programmes for ISB students and parents.
