Theory and Music Ensemble Courses
Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Examinations at ISB
"Enjoyment
through achievement” sums up the Associated Board's philosophy.
Learning a musical instrument not only stimulates a child's musical
interest, it develops other very important personal attributes such as
confidence, motivation, dedication, perseverance and coordination. It
also establishes the link between practice and achievement, while doing
something creative and fun. Research has shown that these attributes,
once experienced, are transferred to more classroom or academic based
subjects.
ABRSM, a London based organisation that is over l00
years old understands this well. Each year it sends highly experienced
examiners worldwide to examine over 600,000 students, so providing the
international benchmarks for the measurement of musical achievement.
The exams are structured to stimulate and develop all aspects of
performance (style, musicality, interpretation, rhythm, technique and
intonation) and aural training. The syllabi are carefully planned at
each level, so the child has a definite goal, can measure their own
personal progress and gain a sense of achievement upon completion of
each grade.
ISB is privileged to be an exam centre where
practical and theory exams are offered twice a year. Please ask your
instrumental teacher or the music programme coordinator for more
information.
