Charities and Fund Raising
Through charity fund raising, ISB seeks to improve the life of children. We support appropriate charities while promoting awareness and engagement of our students, which fosters a spirit of community at global and local levels. To facilitate this, staff and students are invited to suggest charities worthy of support.
South Africa Educational Trip
- Reuben Monareg Primary School (Grades 0-6) is in the suburbs some 150km northwest of Johannesburg. There are between 50-70 pupils per class of whom the majority are orphaned mainly due to Aids. Funds raised for the school have so far initiated a library project with the intention of a purpose-built and stocked school library and improved sports and recreational facilities.
- Khumbulani Centre provides day care and after school services for HIV/AIDS affected and infected children. Donations go to the maintenance of the buildings and care of the children.
- Linawo Children’s Home cares for abandoned and orphaned children. Currently the home accommodates 15 children between 1 and 10 years.
- Habitat for Humanity is an international organisation using sweat equity principles to provide housing for those who have none. ISB students engage in service learning through participating in building houses in disadvantaged areas of Cape Town.
Tanzania CAS Project
The Tanzania CAS Project supports the Mkombezi Centre for street children in Moshi. The centre provides a safe place for the children to sleep, get food, medical advice and schooling. Needed books and equipment are bought locally by visiting students and staff.
Casa Verde
Run by the non-profit organisation BLANSAL, Casa Verde (Arequita, Peru) offers a home, food, psychological help, schooling and eventually vocational training to 25 children and teenagers. Usually these children have been neglected and/or confronted with physical, psychological or sexual abuse from within their families before being finally completely abandoned.
Burkino Faso Project
This joint project with the Aesch Gemeinde raises funds to supply a daily hot meal for students at the Palaga School in Burkino Faso.
Make A Wish
The mission of the Make-A-Wish-Foundation is to grant the wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions.
Pennies for Peace
This is a programme sponsored by the Central Asia Institute (CAI) with the aim of promoting peace through education. It raises funds for rural schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
UKBB-Universitäts-Kinderspital beider Basel (Children’s Hospital of both Basels) is the School’s local charity. At present a new university children’s hospital is being built. It will provide medicinal and therapeutic services for children as well as accommodation in the immediate area for parents.
