The ISBrocki is an excellent resource for free, high quality 2nd hand or completely unused school stationery at ISB. It is another example of how the Sustainability Team has been engaging students and staff to shape our environmental footprint. Thanks to the ISBrocki corner, students, staff and teachers no longer need to spend a fortune on new stationery at the beginning of the year or when they run out. All they need to do is go to the easily visible ISBrocki shelf, one of which is conveniently located on each campus, and stock up!
There they will find, for example:
- Plastic folders and covers
- Markers and pens
….and even scrap paper! Not only does this save money, it cuts down on the amount of brand new resources we are consuming as a school community. Reduce and Re-use made easy!
ISBrocki came about as a result of the annual End-of-Year Cleaning. At the end of every academic year, classrooms and workspaces have to be cleared by teachers and staff before the summer break. This year, for the first time, the Sustainability Team (CAST) asked teachers to donate items (books, office, paper and art supplies) that they no longer needed, to be sorted by our Team volunteers, rather than throwing them away. This is part of our larger effort to minimise the waste produced by ISB.
We received many more donations than we expected, many of which could still be re-used, and many that were unused. We needed a plan to save them from the trash and give them a longer life. ISBrocki was born!
Anything that could still be used was saved and sorted, appropriate locations for the ISBrocki were found, and two of our Environmental Society students, Danae and Kate, recorded an informational video to promote ISBrocki to the whole school community. We’re delighted by how popular the ISBrocki has become, and hope that it will continue to be a part of life at ISB until an improved purchasing system is in place.
