Youth Forum Switzerland 2020

On Thursday, 16 January, 30 Grade 11 students taking Global Politics travelled along with members from Environmental Society to the International School of Zug and Luzern (ISZL), who were hosting the 2020 Youth Forum Switzerland (#YFS2020) this year. 24 schools and 700 members participated in the event this year with the theme of the forum being “Our Future Now.” Speakers included students as well as keynote speakers from diverse professional backgrounds such as: The role of youth in peace making; Sustainability; Youth gender roles; Mental and emotional youth health; Activism and action along with many more.

This is the third year ISB has attended. New this year, were smaller ‘Impact Labs’ that featured a more ‘hands-on’ experience with a diverse range of offerings, from a ‘First Step Acting Workshop’ to ‘Exploring Music of Kurdistan’ and ‘Making a Paddle boards from PET bottles.’

Two ISB students, Catalina and Lorelei delivered a Ted Talk which highlighted the work of two unknown Brazilian Environmental activists, conveying the message that some are making a difference in their communities without being noticed. We were proud to see our students on stage and applaud their courage to do so!

Students and adults accompanying the students were inspired by many of the talks and discussions, which will inform ISB’s work on Sustainability. The forum also gave us an opportunity to develop stronger relationships with the host school to explore areas of further collaboration around student action.

One of the speakers ended his talk stating: “ Activism without action leads nowhere….stop thinking and start acting!”
