Welcome to International School Basel (ISB). As you search for an English-speaking international school, among the many good schools in and around Basel, we welcome you to explore our website and, better yet, stop by ISB for a visit and tour. ISB is the only school in the Basel region to offer all three programmes of the highly regarded International Baccalaureate programme: Primary Years Programme (Early Childhood to Grade 5); the Middle Years Programme (Grade 6 to 10); and the Diploma Programme (Grade 11 & 12). The IB programmes are recognised among the best school programmes in the world, developing the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills required of students to live, learn and work in the rapidly changing world of tomorrow. Our students are also well prepared to transition to other schools around the globe when family circumstances necessitate a move to another city or country.
Amidst our strong academic programme, ISB also offers support for students with additional Learning Needs as well as students requiring additional support in English. ISB offers an Intensive Needs Program designed to support students who require a specialised learning programme. Our support team also includes a speech therapist, counsellors and a school psychologist.
ISB seeks to offer all students a broad and holistic education. It is often outside of the traditional classroom that the more formative learning takes place. For this reason, ISB offers a multitude of activities ranging from sports to arts (both performing and visual), interest clubs to service learning opportunities and much more - all geared towards delivering a well-rounded, balanced education to our young people. The extra-curricular program, along with the academic program, are designed to enhance every student’s ability to make meaningful contributions to society.
ISB teachers and students come from all corners of the world, creating a unique educational environment. There is a fascinating mix of long-term students and teachers as well as new arrivals. We are a learning community of dedicated educators, supportive families and happy students guided by our inspirational Mission.
We would love to have you join us.
In 1979, Janet Galli, an entrepreneurial American, founded International School Basel (ISB) with 15 students. Her vision for the creation of a local international school was the beginning of ISB as we know it today.
