Middle School | Ages 11 - 12
Welcome to ISB Fiechten Campus
Early adolescence is a critical phase of personal and intellectual development and we, as a staff, aim to provide our students with a caring environment which fosters skills such as working effectively with others, communicating clearly, and self-management to support them through this phase of development. We encourage our students to pursue academic excellence; to become caring, global citizens; and to lead healthy, balanced lives.
Tico Oms, Middle School Principal

Health and Safety
A student’s health and safety is of paramount importance.
We believe that students at ISB, for the full and harmonious development of their personality, grow in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding (adapted from UN Convention of the Rights of the Child). Whilst it is not possible to fully protect all students, ISB has a Child Protection Policy in place to respond to concerns of ‘physical or mental violence, injury or abuse, neglect or negligent treatment, maltreatment or exploitation, including sexual abuse, while in the care of parent(s), legal guardian(s)’ or any other person who comes into contact with the child. (Article 19, UN Convention of the Rights of the Child)
In line with the school’s Mission and Philosophy, ISB is committed to ensuring that all children in our care are afforded a safe and secure environment that nurtures academic, social and emotional growth. To this end, ISB views this commitment as a ‘partnership’ (ISB Mission and Philosophy), involving all members of ISB community.
As a school located in Switzerland, we comply with Swiss Federal and Cantonal laws pertaining to child protection.
At ISB there are professionally-trained and qualified nurses to provide care when needed, and clear guidelines to help maintain a healthy environment for all.
All three campuses have a medically-equipped room and are staffed by trained and qualified nurses. They are available to provide first aid and basic medical care as well as helping and advising regarding local health care facilities. All staff are trained in basic first aid and a number are certified first aiders. Staff rooms contain a notice board with photos of students who have serious health issues to enable staff to easily recognise these students.
All staff and parents are issued with an ISB ID badge. This must be worn in a visible manner whilst on the school property. Visitors are required to sign in at the main reception desk at either campus and are issued with a visitor’s badge. All visitors must sign out and return the badges before leaving the premises. Any person without a proper ID will be addressed and directed back to Reception to sign in.
Lockdown and evacuation practices take place on a regular basis. This is done to ensure that students and all personnel on campus are well-prepared in the unlikely event of such emergencies. This is also required by the School’s accreditation agencies. Procedures are reviewed with students prior to the practice of drills. Parents are also encouraged to familiarise themselves with the procedures.
The Fiechten Campus library offers a robust middle years fiction collection in English, German, French and Spanish.
The Fiechten Library is resourced to provide the perfect stepping stone and support for the MYP Curriculum. The library provides a collection of books, magazines and online resources which have been tailored to supplement Grade 6 - 7 learning experiences.
The Fiction collection is well stocked with age appropriate books from all genres, including Graphic Novels and Short stories. In addition there are specific sections for German, French and Spanish to support the Modern Languages taught. The fiction collection is regularly updated so that the students always have access to the latest books in the Fiction World.
Students have some exciting reading events to look forward to – namely Golden Cowbell Awards and the Battle of the Books Competition, these are sure to create a buzz around reading.
The library works with teachers to integrate research, evaluation and citation skills into the curriculum.
