International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation founded in 1968 offering highly respected programmes of international education that develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills needed to live, learn and work in a globalizing world. The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) are programme frameworks that enable schools to internally develop their curriculum based on the local context. The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is prescribed in order to prepare for the IB's externally validated examinations leading to university entrance.
ISB is authorized to offer the following three IB programmes:
Grade 11 - 12 (ages 16 to 19)
Introduced by the IB - 1968
Authorised at ISB - 1995
Research suggests many benefits to choosing the Diploma Programme (DP). The programme aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.
Grade 6 - 10 (ages 11 to 16)
Introduced by the IB - 1994
Authorised at ISB - 2001
A challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) is inclusive by design; students of all interests and academic abilities can benefit from their participation.
EC 1 - Grade 5 (ages 3 to 11)
Introduced by the IB - 1997
Authorised at ISB - 2003
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. It focuses on the development of the whole child.

Partnerships
Sinfonieorchester Basel
The ISB Music Department is delighted to be continuing its educational partnership with the Sinfonieorchester Basel. A long-standing Basel institution, the ensemble was founded in 1876 and has been known by its current name since 1997. The group gives regular performances in Basel, both at the Stadtcasino and as part of Theater Basel opera productions. They are also an active recording ensemble, and regularly tour different parts of the world.
TheateR Basel
We are very excited to continue the collaborative venture between ISB and Theater Basel, one of the most dynamic and renowned theaters not only in Switzerland, but in Europe.
Theater Basel is Switzerland’s largest theater working in three distinct art forms. It offers the tri-national metropolitan region a broad and ambitious programme in the fields of opera, theater and ballet, as well as provision for children and young people.
References
Google Reference School
As a recognized Google Reference School, ISB is joining a select group of schools and colleges in Switzerland who are recognized by Google for their outstanding use of technology to drive positive learning outcomes.
Being part of the Google Reference Schools program means that our use of G-Suite throughout the school and our good practice in utilising its tools can be referenced and displayed to offer support to other schools. We are able to provide training opportunities for colleagues and will continue to work closely with Google in supporting the use, development and deployment of future technologies for use in schools.
