Tech Talks with Parents

Fostering Responsible Digital Citizenship Together

At ISB, we view digital citizenship and the use of digital devices as a shared responsibility within our community.

Collaborating for a Safer Digital Future
How can we ensure that our students engage with devices, the internet, and social media in a responsible and positive way? Our "Tech Talks with Parents" series aims to tackle these questions while offering a platform for collaborative growth and community dialogue on these important topics.

Join the Conversation: Parent-Led Sessions Welcome — Our goal is to include as many parents as possible in the discussion. If you are interested in leading a session based on one of the podcasts, please let us know.

What

We are using the ‘book club’ approach to bring the sessions alive. Instead of reading a book or series of books we will use the ‘Their Own Devices’ Podcast to focus and guide our discussions. The byline of the podcast is ‘MTV Parents Raising YouTube Kids’. Starting in November 2018 the series brings an online security expert and a pediatrician together to discuss young people and digital device use.

How

We want to include as many people from the ISB community and beyond as possible. We realize it is difficult to make a presentation or meeting on a morning or evening. Because of this we would like to use the power of Twitter to broaden the scope of our discussions based on the podcast. With this in mind, here is how to participate:

  • Listen to Podcast - this will vary from session to session
  • Make notes, collect thoughts
  • Share ideas/thoughts/connections/ questions/noticings/highlights on social media #ISBaseltechtalks
  • Attend the Discussions at Aesch
  • Continue to share and discuss ideas on Twitter and in the ISB Community
