Congratulations to Ellie Cho, Kirby Key, Adelene Slade and Derek Wang who have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program for their excellent performances on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
On 5-7 October, ISB Senior School Student, Anna, took part in the Souffle Concours de Flute Competition and won 1st place. Read more about the competition and Anna's musical background here.
At the Junior School at ISB, Student Librarians are trained in many aspects of the day-to-day operation of the library, and volunteer their help before and after school. We talked to a couple of the Student Librarians to ask why they decided to volunteer in the library.
ISB is proud of our students, staff and parents who work tirelessly throughout the year on charitable work. Recently, four Junior School students came together to raise money for cancer research for the Terry Fox Foundation. PYP8 students, Lara, Leah, Louise and Salma, organized and managed the "Chain of Hope" fundraiser at the Junior School campus raising over CHF 578 in one day!
International School Basel has had some great success in skiing recently. We have seen many of our skiers on the podium this year and are proud of the efforts and successes of the entire ski team. Find out first hand what's it like to be an ISB skier from Louise, one of our Junior School skiers.
Sax of Fun is a saxophone quartet based at International School Basel Reinach Campus founded 2 years ago. The four members of the group are Senior School students Emily (alto saxophone), Fiona (alto saxophone), Gwilym (tenor saxophone) and Carter (baritone saxophone). We interviewed the group about when they began playing, their interest in music and Sax of Fun!
If you have attended any International School Basel events such as Plays, Musicals, Concerts, Discos, Guest Speaker Events, BAMUN, Idols, Quiz Nights, International Festival, etc., you will have seen hundreds of students performing, but one face you probably did not notice unless you looked behind the curtain is ISB Senior School Student, Sammy.
Students during the day, radio announcers at night. Every week, International School Basel (ISB) Senior School students Alice and Helena transform from students in the classroom to announcers at Radio X, a Basel radio station. Every Tuesday evening, the two young women sit behind the microphone and present the Culture Calendar to around 3'000 listeners. This 20-minute programme, broadcast in English, informs listeners about current events and happenings in the local region.
Congratulations to ISBasel Junior School Student, Arabella, who won the Swiss National Karate Championship in the Girls Junior Kata category! Read more about how Arabella started karate and what she thought about competing at the Swiss National Championships in her own words.
As summer is coming to a close, we caught up with a few ISBasel students to see how they spent their summers.
Robin is an MYP3 student at International School Basel and a competitive swimmer on the local Schwimmverein beider Basel (SVB) team. He competed in 11 events at the Championships winning Bronze in the 100m Butterfly and finishing in the top 10 in 7 other events. Read our interview with Robin about swimming and competing at the 2017 Swiss Junior Swimming Championships here.
The Swiss team won gold medals and placed second over-all in the tournament! With an 18 point lead, Switzerland entered the finals against New-Zealand and China Laplace Witches. During the final fight they placed second with a mere 1.2 point difference and was thus justly awarded gold medals along with the absolute winners (New-Zealand) for their fantastic performance.
