Sinfonieorchester Basel Concert at ISBasel

Wednesday, 6 February, 19:00 - 20:00
Fleischbachstrasse 2, 4153 Reinach

We are delighted to welcome the entire ISB community, family, friends and neighbors to join us for another special performance by musicians from Sinfonieorchester Basel – in association with the ISBasel Music Department. For this concert - the third such event in less than a year - the orchestra's brass section will perform an exciting and varied programme featuring works by Gershwin, Gabriele and Delerue. The concert will last for about an hour and will be followed by an apéro, during which audience members can meet and mingle with the musicians. This event is free, open to the public, and is part of International School Basel’s ongoing educational partnership with Sinfonieorchester Basel.

Expat Expo Basel

Sunday, 10 February11:00 - 17:00
Congress Center/Basel Messe

ISB will be attending Expat-Expo - Settling into a new country can be a daunting process for anyone, but Expat-Expo is designed to help the Anglophone community feel quickly at home. Showcasing a wide variety of businesses, organisations, clubs and churches from all over Switzerland and Europe, attendees can feel comfortable among fellow expats and get help adjusting to life in Switzerland.

In the space of an afternoon, families can find important services such as bankers, doctors, accountants and lawyers, schools and day-care, but also explore cultural, social and spiritual activities for expats such as museums, clubs and churches. For expats missing their home countries, and especially the foods associated with them, specialty food items from every corner of the world can also be found — at the upcoming Expat-Expo events in Zurich, for example, expats can find whisky and British cheese stalls to offer a taste of home.

Digital Citizenship for Parents: Cyberbullying Awareness

Monday, 18 February, 19:00 - 21:00
Fleischbachstrasse 2, 4153 Reinach

Eventbrite - Cyberbullying Awareness - Prevention, Detection, Resolution

This event may cover topics which are not suitable for young children.

We welcome you to attend the second in our Digital Citizenship for Parents series, looking at what we, as a community, can do to best prepare our children to be digital citizens of the world.

This session aims to shed light on cyberbullying challenges and to discuss strategies for facing them. Taking a proactive approach, we will advise on steps to take to prevent cyberbullying, how to detect incidents when they occur, and ways to get help with resolving issues when they arise.

Co-presented by our very own David Collett, ISB EdTech Coordinator, and Allison Ochs, author of "Would I have Sexted Back in the 80s?", a modern guide to parenting digital teens derived from lessons of the past. Allison's experience as a social worker and educator, working with hundreds of teens and parents throughout her career, has provided her with the knowledge needed to negotiate topics such as sexting, porn, online/offline bullying, social media, gaming, memes, and too much time online, for both teens and parents.

Digital Citizenship for Parents: Learning in a Digital World

Thursday, 4 April, 19:00 - 21:00
Fleischbachstrasse 2, 4153 Reinach

We welcome you to attend the third in our Digital Citizenship for Parents series, looking at what we as an ISB community can do to best prepare our children to be digital citizens of the world.

One of the newest theories in education is called Connectivism, and it explores how we cope with the hyper-connected world of today. In a world where truth has increasingly been challenged and fact has become mixed with fiction, how do we learn effectively? Likewise, in a polarised world, how do we come to consensus and promote collaboration and collegiality in our learning journeys? This session will offer both educational theory and best practice. The goals will be how to engage in open and honest communication about these issues, and how to help young people develop strategies for learning in this new paradigm.
